International Safety Management

Full ISM

The International Safety Management Code is compulsory for all commercial yachts of 500GT and over. The Code requires that all such vessels have an approved Safety Management System on board. The aim is to create conditions and activities both ashore and afloat that are planned and executed to ensure safety and environmental protection in accordance with international legislation requirements.

Dominion Marine Technical Services (DMTS) provide a certified safety and quality management system which is customised for each specific yacht. DMTS will assist in the development and implementation of measures onboard to comply with the international regulations. DMTS provide the services of the Designated Person Ashore (DPA) as required by the Code on a 24/7 basis. DMTS personnel are also Lead ISM Auditors which enables them to assist the Master and Officers on board as necessary, conduct audits required by legislation and to ensure the continuing development of the system.

Mini ISM

The Dominion Marine Technical Services' Mini ISM system has been tailor-made, using a wealth of knowledge and experience, to meet the safety management requirements as established in the “Large Yacht Code” for all British registered commercial yachts greater than 24 metres and less than 500 gross registered tonnes.

This Mini ISM framework clearly defines practical and effective lines of communication both onboard and ship to shore. The system is owned and managed by the yacht and will evolve with the vessel whilst being fully supported by a team of qualified Lead ISM auditors.

To ensure that Mini ISM systems continue to operate effectively and develop on a timely basis, Dominion Marine Technical Services will continually provide clients with details of all relevant legislative changes and will also perform non-compulsory bi-annual onboard audits.

The Mini ISM framework designed and managed by Dominion Marine Technical Services is extremely comprehensive and practical to implement, whilst also offering outstanding value for money.

Maxi ISM

During recent discussions with Owners’ Representatives, it became apparent that they required a safety management system which went beyond the requirements of the Mini ISM for commercial yachts greater than 24 metres but did not require all the aspects of Full ISM.

Accordingly, Dominion Marine has developed a system which we have named Maxi ISM, which is up to the standard of  Full ISM with the full provision of DPA services and so on, but without the requirement to submit to the Flag State for formal approval and certification.
