ICM Charitable Trust
Although the ICM Charitable Trust has been in existence for some time, it has recently become more proactive, with a dedicated committee organising fundraising activities and co-ordinating donations. The committee is comprised of staff members from across the company who contribute ideas and help organise the events. The focus of the Charitable Trust is to support local children’s charities.
The charities chosen to benefit in 2009 were CRUSE Bereavement Care IOM - a charity that promotes the well-being of bereaved people; Project 21 which supports all people with a learning disability; Connect 2 Charity - an umbrella group raising funds for a variety of small charities including the ASK Outreach Trust who help abused and orphaned children in Bangalore; Mobex - a charity promoting experiential learning for young people; the Isle of Man branch of Victim Support, who help victims and witnesses of crime; Caring for Carers who provide respite for carers on the Isle of Man and Outward Bound, a world wide charity that offers young people the opportunity to face challenges in new environments. In 2009 almost £13,000 was distributed across the various charities listed.
In 2010 the committee decided that they would support a main charity, Rebecca House, a purpose built children’s hospice forming an integral part of Hospice, Isle of Man. Rebecca House provides respite, palliative, and end of life care for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions from birth to 18 years. A donation of £10,000 was made on 12th May during a visit to the Island of Viscount Linley who was a speaker at an evening fundraising event organised by Hospice Isle of Man.
Other charities that will benefit in 2010 are the Children’s Centre, SCBU and a group of students going on an Outward Bound trip in March 2011.
